So im transmasculine(afab), I've known for a few years now; and I've had a lot of issues with passing throughout the 2-3 (maybe 3 1/2?) years I've known im trans. I've tried multiple different methods of masculine contour, many different binding methods, tried different hairstyles, I've even been working on my voice(which is the only thing I've "succeeded" with, and I still don't pass vocally). I've been called "ma'am" and "she" multiple times and me and my mom get called "ladies" all the time, and it really sucks.
I can't get a proper binder either because of spinal issues I inherited, and testosterone is out of the question for a number of reasons. Not to mention im not expected to grow past 5 feet 1 inch, maybe 5 feet 2 inches if im lucky, but im not gonna be that tall. I've tried to pass for years for it to fail every time, and its beginning to really upset me. :(
Hi! I'm an AFAB Genderfluid person, so I have some tips on this. One, the sleeves of your shirt should hug your arms and the cuffs. To help this, wear things with cuffed sleeves, even like cuff your t-shirts sleeves. Trust me. Two, button ups make your chest look flatter, and if you undo a few buttons on the top, it will give a pretty good illusion of being flat. Three, hoodies, jean jackets, and oversized shirts work pretty well, especially the first two. I hope this helps! <3
I'm amab so I don't really have to try when it comes to looking masculine so I don't really know much on how to appear more masculine when your afab. My advice is layering since you can't bind plus depending on what you were it can also give you a masculine figure. Here's a few sources about dressing to give you a more masculine figure and exercise to give you a more masculine appearance. There is also a lot of YouTube videos talking about how to to dress pre transition for FTM people. http://point5cc.com/dressing-to-flatter-your-ftm-body-type/ https://www.pride.com/fashion/2016/1/06/6-simple-fashion-tips-trans-men http://ftmguide.rassaku.net/guide/index.htm http://ftmguide.rassaku.net/guide/index.htm https://www.ftmpassingtips.com/passing.html
I hope this helps.
