How can I check before coming out if my family is homophobic? I've tried to bring lgbtq+ up but they just ignore me

This might sound like a bad idea, but if you think they're homophobic, don't come out. If you think it might not be safe, don't come out. If you can't tell, try just asking their opinion. If they just ignore you when you ask their opinion, I'm really sorry, but I don't have much advice. I think all in all, it's probably safest for you to stay in the closet a bit longer. I hope that they're not homophobic, because I know how hard it can be to stay in the closet, but sometimes it's the safest solution. Please take what I've said here with a grain of salt, though. I'm not the most experienced person here and I think you should wait for other people to answer before making a decision. I hope this helped at least a bit, though! <3

I agree one hundred percent with what bbi has said, but I do have a few things to add. If your family does continue to ignore you when you bring up the subject then I suggest being blunt with it and just straight out asking their opinion on it. If they ignore that or just blow it off, then there's a pretty good chance they're homophobic. And like bbi said above me, if they're homophobic then staying in the closet is your best option. But if you believe it's safe to come out and you can't stand being in the closet anymore then just go with your gut and come out. But regardless of what you decide to do, be safe and remember that you are valid and loved. <3
